This morning German outfit FSV Mainz 05 announced the signing of Park Joo-Ho from FC Basel. Park was part of the Basel side that won the Swiss Super League title and went deep in the Europa League before heading out to eventual winners, Chelsea. Park has signed a two year deal, with an option for two more years. No financial terms have been disclosed.
The move seems interesting for Park Joo-Ho. On the one hand the Bundesliga is certainly a more competitive and attractive league than the Swiss Super League, but Mainz did not finish high enough last season to qualify for European action. Basel, of course, won the league and qualified for Champions League qualification. Also, Park does face the added challenge of extra competition at left back with Mainz.
In any event, it will certainly draw more Korean eyes to the Bundesliga next term as there are now four Koreans plying their trade there, and a few more rumored to possibly be joining them.
great update like always.
Two guick questions; how much did park joo ho move for and was ryu seung woo’s move worth 500000 euros?
The amount of Park Joo-Ho’s deal haven’t been released, and so far I haven’t seen any sort of speculation as to it’s value. The same is true for Ryu. From what I’ve heard Dortmund’s offer was rumored to be around 100 million won (about $90,000 or 68,000 Euros) in wages. Because Ryu is an amateur (plays for Joongang University) Dortmund would not need to pay a transfer fee, but would need to compensate the university. I think that fee would be significantly less than 500,000 Euros.
Another piece of news on the transfer front: Suk Hyun-Jun moves to Al-Ahli SC from Portugal.
