I know Roy already posted it, but the KFA has finally confirmed the friendly against Russia, to take place on 11-19 in Dubai.
Russia has confirmed their place in Brazil as they topped group F, narrowly edging out Portugal, by a single point. Russia is managed by the Italian Fabio Capello. Capello needs little introduction. At the club level he has been incredibly successful, winning titles with Milan, Roma, Juventus (although later stripped, unfairly I might add), and Madrid. At the international level Capello’s resume is a bit more muted. A mixed bag, I suppose, with England for the last World Cup cycle. Capello did well with them in qualifying, but South Africa was a veritable disaster with draws against the US and Algeria, and a win over Slovenia. England went out in the round of 16 after a humiliating 4-1 loss to Germany.
With Russia, Capello seems to be on a similar path, although only time will tell how the World Cup goes. Russia was solid in qualifying, as mentioned earlier. In their 10 matches, Russia scored 20 and only conceded 5. Something which would seem to match up with Capello’s general preference and tactical style, rock solid in defense and adequate in attack. But, more on Capello and his tactics as the match comes closer.
Just to recap. Friendly on 11-15 in Seoul against the Swiss, and then another on 11-19 in Dubai against Russia.
Korea needs revenge against Switzerland for 2006. Even though Korea beat Swiss in 2012 Olympic football tournament, I don’t consider that revenge because it wasn’t between real senior full strength teams.
